The 69-year-old Chen Xuelian is an engineer at the Northwest Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. In July 2004, they submitted a patent application to the State Intellectual Property Office. After more than a year of revision and argumentation, the State Intellectual Property Office officially granted them the invention patent certificate.

Chen Xuelian said that the new type of mechanical sand barrier stone member they invented can be equipped with a 10 m wide protective belt in the area where the sand is flowing or as a protective belt in front of the oasis edge separation belt to serve the interest, wind and sand.
